What each Sleep Log question means

What each Sleep Log question means

Your Sleep Log asks a few questions about last night. Here’s what each one means, so your answers are as accurate as possible.

Did you nap or doze off yesterday? Any nap or unintentional dozing during the day, before last night’s sleep.

What time did you get into bed? The time you got into bed, even if you weren’t trying to sleep right away.

What time did you start trying to fall asleep? When you actually began trying to sleep, for example when you turned the lights off and put your phone away.

About how long did it take you to fall asleep? Your best estimate, in minutes, from when you started trying.

Add up all the time you were awake last night after you fell asleep for the first time. The total time you remember being awake between first falling asleep and truly waking up for the day. It isn’t based on the program’s wake-up time. If you woke up twice for 10 minutes each, enter 20 minutes.

If you enter 25 minutes or more, the app asks two follow-up questions:

  • Did any awakening last more than 20 min? Whether any single awakening lasted more than 20 minutes.

  • Did you get out of bed during that time? We ask because if you’re awake for more than 20 minutes in a row, getting out of bed helps you avoid associating the bed with being awake.

When was the very last time that you woke up today? The final awakening that ended your night, even if you stayed in bed afterward. Use the actual clock time when you woke up and didn’t fall back asleep.

What time did you get out of bed after waking up? The actual clock time when you physically got out of bed after that final awakening.

How well do you think you slept last night? Your overall impression of your sleep quality.
